Life Teen Peace Core Ignatius Retreat at the Brazos




This past week/weekend the Life Teen Peace Core had a wonderful four day Ignatius Retreat in the Los Brazos. The college Core worked hard at making all the meals and preparing the camp. We had twenty people attend this retreat. We are now in the development stages of planning a college campus ministry and a high school youth group for the weekdays! POP EDGE Youth
Summer Activities

The POP EDGE mid school youth had 32 volunteers to package food at the Roadrunner Food Bank. They managed to pack close to 450 pounds of cereal to be distributed in New Mexico. Thanks to all who helped out. In addition, pray for our thirteen youth who will attend summer youth camp next week as well as those attending the youth conference next weekend.

St. Pius X High Raffle
Sales August 2-3rd

St. Pius X students will be on hand after Masses on August 2 & 3 with $2 raffle tickets for the annual St. Pius X High School Fund Drive. The grand prize is a $25,000 voucher toward the purchase of a new or used vehicle from Quality by DiLorenzo. The drawing will take place on November 1st. Thank you for supporting Catholic education & Albuquerque's only Catholic high school!


Fundraising Dinner for Filipino Housing August 22nd

Deacon Leandro has organized an effort to build more permanent housing for the Filipino villagers affected by last years typhoon using an innovative block building technology. To build the first of the factories that make the special blocks, the parish is hosting a special fundraising dinner on Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Community Room. The dinner will be prepared and served by the owner of the famous Seagull Street restaurant. Cost is $50. All proceeds will go to the project. Tickets available soon.


Christ in the Desert Visit

Father Christian and the Benedictine Monks of the Christ in the Desert Monastery visited POP recently.
They led Vespers Saturday evening preceeded by an evening meal after the 5pm Mass.
They also brought along their Monastery crafts that they use to earn their daily bread. Plan to visit them at their monastery near Abiquiu or at their website. Link


Kevin Sandoval accepted to Seminary

One of our own, Kevin Sandoval, has been accepted to Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas. He has been a frequent sight here at POP where he often serves as Sacristan both on weekend and daily Masses. Our prayer, congratulations and best wishes go with him on his pilgrim journey.


Vacation Bible School
July 21-25th, 2014

Vacation Bible School for children entering the Pre K through fifth grades will be offered from July 21-25th. This year's theme is "SonTreasure Island". Class times are 8:45 AM until Noon, Monday through Friday. Registration deadline is Friday, July 11th. Contact Bob Shields at 856-7657 ext 120 for information.


Knights of Columbus
Helping Hand Elderly Assistance

Pat Montano of the Knights of Columbus has announced a new program to assist elderly parishioners with their home and yard maintenance. The Program is especially aimed at widows or others who do not have a local family support system. If you need assistance or advice, please contact Pat at 821-1235.

Ordination as Deacon June 21st

WELCOME DEACON KEVIN!
Kevin Barkocy has been ordained a Deacon on June 21st at the Basilica in Santa Fe. He assisted at his first Mass as Deacon on Sunday with a general reception following the Mass. Deacon Kevin has been in active ministry particularly with our Youth groups for some time.
Kevin teaches at St. Pius X and his family are vital members of our Religious Education activities! Again, WELCOME KEVIN!
